Advances in natural language processing combined with messaging apps caused a lot of chatter about chatbots. I wanted to see what the hype was all about and get a first-hand understanding of chatbot interaction design.
In addition, I wonder how these technologies can help to improve the human experience. After participating in a research study about happiness, I wanted to see whether a chatbot could help people to be happier.
The idea is that happiness required working toward a meaningful goal and taking time to enjoy or appreciate your surroundings every day. So I built a chatbot that checked in with you to ask your about these two things and rate your happiness as a little reminder as you can see below.
Joyboto was built to work on Facebook Messenger and it was interesting to learn about the natural language processing capabilities and interactions on the Messenger platform. It was also educational to learn about how to script a chatbot and how far technology needs to evolve for chatbots interactions to feel natural.
This was a fun project and got a write-up by a local technology news site, which was cool/
